Recycled Bottles

One Billion Bottles Pledge

As part of Kingspan’s One Billion Bottles pledge, Synthesia Technology is using recycled PET – a key raw material used in the manufacturing of high-performance insulation for building construction – from plastic bottles across the world in the production of the polyols used in our own insulation.

We are demonstrating that it is possible to use plastic waste responsibly; by upcycling it into brand new products that help to reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions, for the benefit of all and promoting the development of a circular and sustainable economy.

We’re committed to developing this cycle of sustainability into the future – with these recycled bottles going on to be used in insulation that results in both higher energy efficiency and reduced energy usage in homes across the globe.

#OneBillionBottles is just one part of Synthesia UK’s dedication to becoming truly planet passionate, as we aim to make a true difference across our business practices.

The #OneBillionBottles pledge – a scheme of work aiming to recycle that target annually – is part of a partnership between Kingspan, Synthesia and EcoAlf; a foundation that does amazing work removing 150 tonnes of plastic waste from the ocean every year.

Synthesia and Kingspan take some of this waste and transform it into the materials used in our insulation, helping lessen the burden on both EcoAlf and the planet.

In 2020, 900 million PET bottles were recycled by Synthesia in the manufacturing process for our polyols and polyurethane systems, directly preventing these bottles from from ending up in harmful landfill sites or our oceans.

We’re committed to developing this cycle of sustainability into the future – with these recycled bottles going on to be used in insulation that results in both higher energy efficiency and reduced energy usage in homes across the globe.
